Donn Clifford Sinclair, devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on October 22, 2025, at the age of 76. Born on May 31, 1949, in Detroit, Donn will be remembered for being dependable in all matters big and small--from serving his country and supporting his family to feeding the local squirrels or meeting a friend for a cup of coffee.
From 1969 to 1971, Donn served with the U.S. Army on active duty during the Vietnam War with the 1st MP Company, 18th MP Brigade, 1st Infantry Division. Trained at Fort Knox, his time with the Military Police became stories he loved to share. After leaving the service, Donn remained active with Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 154, including serving on the board. Through the Chapter he attended POW/MIA Vigils and supported military families. His pride in the Army stayed with him all his life, with his son, Nick, joining the Army after attending the Citadel Military College. There was always a twinkle in his eye when he attended promotion ceremonies and shared Nick’s milestones with family and friends.
Upon returning from the Army, Donn married his high school sweetheart, Judy, at St. Basil's Catholic Church on April 16, 1971. They shared 55 years of love and companionship, building a life centered on each other and their three children--Michelle, Carrie and Nick (Jen). Dutiful by nature, Donn never missed an anniversary card, always called or texted for birthdays and holidays, and visited the cemetery on his parents' birthdays to honor Jack and Peg. Donn championed his kids' dreams, showing up for sporting events, dance recitals, school plays, band performances, graduations, and promotions. Donn treasured time with his four grandchildren--Jack, Katie, Andy and Emily–and never missed an opportunity to see them or lend a helping hand in any way. His caring manner was often quiet and understated: hanging a college banner on game day, wearing a special hat or t-shirt, or sharing a proud post online about his daughter Carrie’s work on the NOAA ships.
Donn had a lifelong passion for classic cars and drag racing, purchasing his cherished 1967 Corvette Stingray convertible in 1971. He spent summer weekends taking it to car shows and cruise-ins, earning many awards and trophies. A devoted fan of Detroit hockey and baseball, he held fond memories of attending Tigers Opening Day with his younger brother, Roger (Doty). Throughout his life he enjoyed hockey, softball, bowling and recreational shooting, spending many hours at the range with his father, Jack, his son, Nick, and his nephew, Eric. These interests brought him joy and forged bonds with people who shared his passions. He looked forward to visits with family, always commenting that the house felt too big following visits from his daughter, Michelle, and grandson, Jack.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 1, 2025, from 3:00-8:00 p.m. at Resurrection Funeral Home, 40800 Hayes Road, Clinton Township. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, November 2, 2025, at 12:00 p.m., with visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 154, 18025 15 Mile Road, Clinton Township, MI 48035.
