Dorothy Jean Hoskins, age 96, passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 30, 2026. She was born on April 22, 1930, in Detroit, Michigan, to her parents, Ernest and Amy Thompson. Dorothy was raised in Detroit and graduated from Highland Park High School.
In the 1950s, Dorothy began her career as a secretary, working in an office at what was then known as Michigan State Normal College, now Eastern Michigan University, in Ypsilanti. She later worked as a secretary for Eastside Sporting Goods, where she remained until her retirement in 1992.
In 1962, Dorothy married her beloved husband, Helder Hoskins. Together, they shared more than 30 years of marriage and many cherished memories until his passing in 1995.
Dorothy’s greatest joy in life was her family. She was a warm, caring, generous, and funny woman who always seemed to have a smile on her face. She had a giving heart and was the kind of person who would give you the shirt off her back. Her generosity extended beyond those she knew, as she regularly supported numerous charitable organizations, including the Humane Society, Wounded Warrior Project, Disabled American Veterans, and Autism Speaks.
Dorothy will be lovingly remembered for the kindness she showed to others, her wonderful sense of humor, and the love she so freely gave to her family. She was blessed with five children, five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Dorothy will be private.
Those wishing to make a contribution in Dorothy’s memory may do so to any of the charitable organizations she supported, including the Humane Society, Wounded Warrior Project, Disabled American Veterans, or Autism Speaks. Links to donate online are included below.
