Edward “Ed” Joseph Kuhle, a lifelong resident of St. Clair Shores, passed away peacefully on August 25th, 2026 with his loving family at his side. Ed was born on July 23rd, 1945 to the late George and Clarice (née Defer) Kuhle. He grew up at the Kuhle homestead on Lanse Street, attending St. Gertrude Grade School and Lakeshore High School. Shortly after graduation, he devoted his life to the Catholic Church and to sharing his faith with others. Throughout his many years of ministry, Ed taught at and worked in numerous parishes throughout the Archdiocese of Detroit, including St. Cletus, Our Lady of Good Counsel (Detroit), St. Isaac Jogues, St. Mary (Wayne), St. Peter (Harper Woods), St. Mary Queen of Creation, and St. Jane Frances de Chantal, until retiring in 2015. Even in retirement, Ed continued teaching catechism at St. Jane Frances de Chantal and St. Rene Goupil until early 2026, when his illness made it impossible for him to continue.
Ed had a remarkable gift for making faith come alive. His kindness, patience, wisdom, and genuine love for those around him left a lasting impression on all who knew him. He was a mentor, a source of encouragement, and a beloved, calming presence whose influence will continue to live on in the hearts of everyone he met.
Ed is the dear brother of George (Deloris) Kuhle, Ellen (the late Michael) Syroid, William (Laura) Kuhle, the late Anne (the late Charles) Burkhart, and the late Jerome (Sandra) Kuhle. Proud uncle of many nieces and nephews. Favorite teacher of countless students. Ed is also survived by his best friend, Carolyn Mondor, who was a regular visitor of his throughout his illness.
His life was one of faith, service, and love. Though he is deeply missed, the lessons he taught, the faith he shared, and the lives he touched will remain a lasting part of his legacy.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, August 30th from 2pm to 8pm at Kaul Funeral Home, 35201 Garfield Rd, Clinton Twp, MI 48035.
