Elizabeth (Lizzie) Veronica Hardin was born April 27th 1949 in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Edmund and Bernice (Dragunajtys) Curtis. Lizzie leaves behind her eldest brother and his wife, Edmond and Theresa Curtis, her devoted daughters Genevieve Zaroura (Hardin) and Marla Garton (Hardin), her step-son Brent Hardin, and her grandchildren Layth Zaroura, Layan Zaroura, Sylvia Garton and Walter Garton and Joshua Nemith, Eric Hardin, Christian Hardin. Lizzie is preceded in death by her twin brother George Curtis, with whom she shared a very close and unique bond.
Lizzie was known for her faith in Christ, her generous heart, and giving nature. She was a woman with a servant’s spirit and was charitable to all in need. Lizzie was known to share her time, her kind and compassionate companionship, and whatever financial resources she had, personifying the teachings of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Lizzie worked to live the true nature of Christ’s teachings through her relationship and support to others. To those who loved her, she was appreciated for her warm and loving spirit, affection, and beautiful smile. She never missed an opportunity to compliment or build up those she met, be it a life-long friend or a one-time acquaintance.
Lizzie had a unique ability to gather people together through her art of sharing. She was known to speak about her life experience, and never missed an opportunity to help others embrace joy as she told of her life’s adventures. Lizzie had a thirst for knowledge and was an avid reader, educating herself on numerous topics related to her faith and varied interests. Lizzie has impacted the lives of many throughout her life, serving in youth ministry and teaching of God’s blessings in her charitable efforts.
Lizzie’s greatest happiness in life has been her children and grandchildren. She demonstrated a true devotion in her role as a mother and grandmother. Lizzie dedicated her life to supporting her children in every way she was able and believed in instilling values of love, faith and service. She embodied the meaning of the word mother and always reminded her children of her deep love for them through her words and loving actions.
In the final months before Lizzie’s passing, Lizzie had an opportunity to participate in charitable efforts for the African Children’s Choir. It was her desire that she contribute to the restoration of hope and faith in the hearts of Africa’s orphans. In memory of Lizzie’s heart for God’s orphans, we ask that memorial donations be made to The African Children’s Choir in her honor. Lizzie believed that God was the Greatest Father to us all and it is our desire that her life and legacy lead the youngest of souls to feel that same Father’s love through her beautiful legacy. It is this love that Lizzie truly experiences today, in the arms of her Loving Father, Jesus Christ.
