

HICKS, Floyd Q.; of Rochester Hills; passed away on June 5, 2015 at 85 years old. Floyd was born in 1929 near Chattanooga, Tennessee to his parents Raymond and Ethel Hicks. He moved to Detroit as a young boy, attended high school in Highland Park, and joined the US Army Air Force. While based in Guam and serving in the Pacific, he played football and, more importantly, developed unmatched prowess in fast-pitch softball - a talent he used for decades in Pontiac, Waterford, and other recreation leagues and tournaments into the 1980s. Floyd’s trophy case includes MVP awards, news clippings, and state championship accolades as one of the premier pitching aces in Michigan. Floyd earned his engineering degree from Wayne State University and worked for Hydro-Cam Engineering and then for Ford Motor Company for 24 years. Afterward he worked in related capacities with other industry-related engineering companies, including his own small company, Drayton Engineering. Floyd loved his family, friends, and sports activities in Michigan. He actively participated in the Shriners, Elks Lodge where he was a Past Exalted Ruler, the Michigan Masons, and other fraternal and service organizations. Floyd and his wife Juanita were married in 2000, each having adult children from previous marriages. He is survived by his dearly loved wife, Juanita; daughter Vicki Foster and family of greater Manistee; son Larry Hicks and family of Spring Lake; twin sons Daniel and David Hicks and their respective families in California; son Timothy Hicks and family of Ventura, California; niece Susan Sheppard and family of Oscoda; step-daughter Cheryl Dziurkowski and family of Clinton Township; step-son Larry Reinhart and his family of Florida; step-daughter Michelle and family of Sterling Heights; cousin Elaine Sutphin and family of Livonia; and brother K. Leon Roberts and family of Grand Rapids. Floyd had ten grandchildren along with many step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many extended family members. Military Honors will be held Monday, 11:00 am at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan.
