

Geneva Baker passed away July 27, 2017. Survived by her children Juanita Louise (Roy) Rathka and Larry Joel Baker. Also survived by grandchildren Michael William (April) Speelman, Sandra Louise (Robert) Edwards and great-granddaughters: Jamie Lynn Hackett, Samantha Rose Speelman and Victoria Louise Edwards.
Preceded in death by her husband of 61 years Walter Melvin Baker, brother Ansel Furgerson and sister Dorothy Hull.
Geneva worked as a library assistant for 17 years at Hazel Park Junior High School. She then volunteered at Troy Beaumont Hospital for a decade starting in 1978, (when the hospital was built) at the information desk.
Geneva and Walter loved bowling together and participated in many bowling leagues. Once Walter became ill, Geneva devoted herself to caring for him through many illnesses.
Geneva was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church of Hazel Park, where she taught Sunday School and also volunteered to work in vacation bible school. Her family will miss her loving kindness and gentle spirit. Her strong Christian faith will live on in the example she set for her family.
Visitation for Geneva will be Sunday July 30, 2017 starting at 4:00 p.m. at Resurrection Funeral Home 40800 Hayes Rd. Clinton Twp. MI 48038. A Funeral Service Celebrating her life will be on Monday July 31, 2017 with a visitation from 10:30 until the time of the funeral at 11 a.m. at Tabernacle Baptist Church 22323 S. Chrysler Drive, Hazel Park MI 48030. Reverend Richard Yokel will officiate. Geneva will be taken to her final place of rest at Cadillac Memorial Gardens East 38425 Garfield Rd, Clinton Twp. MI, 48038 immediately following the funeral service.
