Genevieve N. Chisholm, age 89, of Sterling Heights, Michigan, passed away on December 7, 2019. She is the beloved mother of Debra Douthat (David), Diane Chisholm, Bernard “Joe” Chisholm (Maria), Thomas Chisholm (Marie), Catherine Batkins (Clifford), Nora Bishop (William), John Chisholm, and Mary Chisholm; Cherished grandmother of 20 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; Dear sister of Sister Joanne MacFarlane. Genevieve is preceded in death by her husband, Bernard, and three children, Paula “Irene” Chisholm, Corinne Comeau, and Peter Chisholm.
Genevieve was born on September 29, 1930 on Cape Breton, Nova Scotia to John and Mary MacFarlane. She was one of 11 children. As a young adult, Genevieve moved from Cape Breton to Detroit, Michigan where she met her husband, Bernard, after World War II, at a Scottish Dance. They married and started a family of their own, having eleven children, raising them in the greater Detroit area. She was a very family oriented person. Genevieve dedicated her life raising and caring for her family, and as the family grew, she cared for them in other ways, particularly celebrating life’s events. She always made grand Sunday dinners, which many attended. Holidays and birthdays were always celebrated at her home. Also, a woman of strong Catholic faith, Genevieve prayed daily. The rosary was very important to her.
Visitation for Genevieve will be Friday, December 13 from 2 - 9pm at Resurrection Funeral Home, 40800 Hayes Road, Clinton Township, MI 48038. Instate will be 9:30 am Saturday, December 14 until the service at 10:00am at St. Matthias Catholic Church, 12509 19 Mile Rd, Sterling Heights, MI 448313.
