Helen (Galiatsos) Gossman Zellner passed peacefully at home, surrounded by her beloved family on August 18, 2023. She is survived by her three youngest children, Judy (John) Austin, Terri (Michael) Taylor and Jamie Gossman, as well as 19 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren, all of whom adored their Gigi. She is predeceased by her four oldest children, Cheryl, Penny, Michael, and Tom, and her grandson, Michael.
Helen was a voracious reader, especially of romance novels, mysteries and poetry; her extensive vocabulary was proof of her love of reading. She also enjoyed word and puzzle games, playing along with Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy with her daughter and son-in-law nearly every evening. She traveled quite often, spending time in Las Vegas and Washington State, visiting family there whenever she could. Helen loved a bargain, and enjoyed “bumming around” with her family and friends, thrift shopping, lunching, and just being together.
Helen lived almost her entire life in Warren and the surrounding area, where she attended Lincoln High School (class of 1942), and where she met and married her husband, Tom, and raised her children. She attributed her long life and mental sharpness to spending time with babies and children her entire life, including in particular her great-granddaughters Peyton and Chloe, with whom she enjoyed a special closeness.
Visitation for Helen will be held on Wednesday, August 23, 2023 at Resurrection Funeral Home, 40800 Hayes Road in Clinton Township from 3:00pm until 6:00pm with a service at 5:30pm.
In memory of Helen, donations are appreciated to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
