Born on January 14, 1951, in Detroit, Michigan, to Kenneth and Anna Duprey, Jim grew up in a traditional Catholic home, attending Catholic school through the eighth grade, serving as an altar boy, and singing in the church choir. His deep faith remained a guiding light throughout his life.
During his final years of high school, Jim began working part-time at Royal Typewriter through a co-op program. He continued there after graduation until he found his true calling as a firefighter. In 1980, he proudly joined the City of Warren Fire Department, where he dedicated 25 years of service, retiring in 2005.
Outside of work, Jim cherished time spent with his beloved wife, Carole. Together, they enjoyed traveling, visiting casinos across Michigan and Las Vegas, and sharing countless adventures. Jim had a passion for fishing with his good friends Bruce and Stan, especially for perch—always bringing his catch home for Carole to prepare. He was also an avid bowler who competed in tournaments and loved a round of golf every now and then.
Jim’s greatest joy came from time spent with family and the many dear friends who became like family throughout his life. He will be remembered for his warmth, humor, dedication, and the love he gave so freely. He leaves behind countless memories that will be cherished by all who knew him. Jim will be greatly missed but forever held close in the hearts of those who loved him.
Jim is survived by his wife of nearly 33 years, Carole Duprey; Sister Denise Duprey, as well as sister-in-law Terri Duprey and brother-in-law Tom Bussey; Niece Karen Barasch (Greg) and nephews Aaron Bussey (Katie) and Matthew Duprey (Kari); close special neighbors Tom and Fran Carter; and longtime loyal friend Mike Skorupski who joined the fire department at the same time with him. A special thanks also goes to Tanaé Jones, his loving and caring hospice aide with Hospice of Michigan. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Anna Duprey, as well as his brother Jerry Duprey and sister Annette Bussey.
A Memorial Mass will take place on Saturday, August 9, 2025 at 10:00 am at St. Paul of Tarsus Catholic Church, 41300 Romeo Plank Road in Clinton Township. Friends may visit the church beginning at 9:30 am on Saturday.
Following the Memorial Mass everyone is invited to Luciano's Restaurant, 39091 Garfield Road in Clinton Township.
