Jary was born the oldest of two boys to Kathryn and Jason Day in Ann Arbor, MI, on September 10, 1935. He was a businessman and with his wife, opened up their own real estate company with a couple of office locations. His company name, Jason Real Estate, was chosen to honor his father. Even though they retired, it is now a second-generation company where his youngest son, Kasey, keeps Jary’s traditions. He had a passion for helping people find their dream homes, and he and Jo would buy many homes for investments or to flip years before it became popular television entertainment.
As a young child, Jary’s family lived in East Detroit, MI. He met his wife, Jo Anne Giglio, at East Detroit High School, where they both attended school and graduated in 1954. He married his high school sweetheart on April 30, 1955, and shortly afterward, he enlisted in the Air Force, where he served in the Military Police in Saudi Arabia. In 1956, Jary and Jo had their first child, Kieth. Three years later, they welcomed their second child, Karyn, and in 1962, they brought their third and last child, Kasey, into the world. Jary worked hard to ensure they were cared for and felt loved. He would remark how proud he was of the family they raised together. He would say the Day family may be small, yet they are a beautiful bunch!
Jary had many titles: gentleman; husband; dad; brother; son; uncle; friend; golfer; snowmobiler; fisherman; hunter; landlord; yet his most enjoyed was grandpa “Papa” of three, Jodie Schweiger (Paul), JD (Katie Sholly), Taylor Doran, and great-grandfather of six: Evan, Aislyn, David, Elliot, Jasper, and Cora.
He was also a classic car enthusiast. Jary personally painted and restored a 1954 Ford F100 Pick-Up and his 1968 Pontiac Firebird Convertible. He and Jo would attend many classic car shows. Kieth and Cheryl would often join them for the ride and sit at the shows, admiring all the different styles and customized vehicles on display.
When they weren’t living in Clinton Township or Pellston, Michigan, the snowbirds would head south to their Lake Worth, Florida home. Jary felt at home wherever Jo was, and that’s where he would be content.
Friends and family were essential to Jary, and he had friendships for decades, many began in kindergarten. Jary would plan fishing trips with his buddies, and they would go to the family cottage on Douglas Lake annually. He hunted with his sons, dear friends Jack Bedard, and the late Ken Baker for many years.
He was preceded in death by his mom, Kathryn “Mimi” and his dad, Jason “Pawp”.
Though we mourn the loss of Jaryn Day, we also celebrate a life filled with integrity, love, faith, kindness, jokes, and joy. His memory will forever serve as a compass, reminding us to embrace life with caring hearts, humility, and to honor his legacy by embodying the same compassion and kindness he exemplified. Somewhere out on Douglas Lake, a loon is singing a sad song in mourning, but an eagle is soaring upward in hope and joy.
He is survived by his wife, Jo; his children Kieth (Cheryl); Karyn Doran (Kevin); Kasey (Connie); his brother Tom (Sandy); and brother-in-law Dean Busquaert (Emily); niece Kristin Curran (Patrick); and nephews Jason (Valerie), and Cameron Busquaert; his grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
A memorial for the celebration of Jary’s life will be held at Kaul Funeral Home on October 11th from 3pm until 8pm with a service at 6:30pm. In Lieu of flowers the family suggests for memorial donations to go to The University of Michigan's Biological Station Bio Station Discretionary Fund.
Jary’s final resting place will be at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, MI with a private military service.
