On Thursday, February 4, 2021, one of God’s favorite servants was called home. Ida Jean Davis, passed away peacefully at home with her devoted husband of 58 years, Mr. Ronald Jack Davis by her side. She was 82.
Jean was raised in St. Clair Shores, Michigan. She graduated from South Lake High School and remained close to many friends from school for decades. She especially loved participating in and planning class reunions.
Jean met Jack, the love of her life, at a chance encounter one evening at a steak house. After exchanging numbers, Jack recognized Jean’s last name and after their first conversation Jack realized he served in the Army with her cousin, Bob. This was the connection that prompted their dating. They married on June 9, 1962.
Jean began her professional working career at the GM switchboard until she began her family. Jack and Jean moved to Warren, where they lovingly raised 5 children. She would spend the next 40 years in the close knit neighborhood surrounded by friends she considered as family. She was a doting grandmother, always looking to babysit, take the children on trips, and in the last years sharing beautiful stories and snuggles in her chair.
Jean was a loving mother who instilled strong values in her children. Faith and family were paramount. Devout in her Christian faith, Jean was raised attending the Methodist church, and later became a member of Bible Baptist Church and North Point Baptist Church. She was active in the church, worshiping every Sunday, but she could be found at the church any day of the week often in the kitchen working to prepare meals or in the sanctuary on Saturday delivering floral arrangements she created.
Jean was always on the move. She enjoyed many hobbies including ceramics, basket weaving, gardening, cooking, baking, and party planning. She treasured her time with friends and could be counted on to join a bowling league or travel, but her card club ladies held a special place in her heart.
She was proud of her 22 years at the law firm of Miller Canfield. She loved working the reception desk, assisting attorneys, tending to visitors, and warmly greeting all who came through the door. She truly admired all her colleagues; she counted each as a dear friend.
After retiring from the law firm in 1999 she and Jack enjoyed their summers on Harper Lake in Irons, Michigan and their winters in Tarpon Springs, Florida. Watching sunrises over the lake and the sunsets on the gulf were favorite pastimes. Her last few years in Florida, Jean was blessed with and cared for by special friends.
Jean was preceded in death by her father, Richard (Dick) Lutey, and her mother, Ida Lutey, and her brother James (Jimmy) Lutey. Left to cherish her memory is her beloved husband, Jack; her children: Jeff Davis, Jennifer (Tim) Davis-Eklin, Jill (Armin) Scheans, Nancy Davis, and Jonathan (Tammy) Davis; and her grandchildren: Jeffery (Betina), Jacob, Jennilee, Andrew, Emily, Ashley, Jack and Jenelle.
