Beloved mother of John (Cheryl) Commyn, Jeffrey Commyn, Joseph Commyn; proud grandmother of Jessica (Alex) Willmarth, Jamie (Richard) Kobylski, Cristina (Anthony) Geraci, Maria (Nate) Bazydlo, Jacob Commyn, Jacqueline Commyn; great-grandmother of Brady and Hallie Kobylski, and Frank Geraci. Survived by her sisters, Linda Elias and Michele Vitale; and brother, Michael Fremont, Sr. Also survived by her devoted companion and friend, Gari Michaels. She was predeceased by John Commyn, Sr., father of their three sons.
Joanne was born on February 6, 1942, in Detroit, Michigan to Joseph and Hannah Fremont. She attended St. Martin’s Parish and School, and she was Homecoming Queen in 1960. She loved organizing luncheons with her former classmates and continued to do so as long as she could.
Mom was the Energizer Bunny with a servant’s heart. She instilled family values and took great pride in taking care of her three sons, half the neighborhood, nieces, nephews, grandkids, co-workers, customers, and her fellow residents of Cranberry Park. She loved the caregivers there, and they loved her back.
Joanne was a mom, grandmother and GiGi, so she was an educator and a cook and a chauffeur, and a leader … and she should have been celebrated nationally for her achievements.
Mom did it all – a dedicated role model for a strong and honest work ethic and family first mindset. She loved attending and being involved in the athletic or music or dance or cheer endeavors with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She loved hosting or attending family gatherings and spending time with her entire family.
Joanne was always a hard worker, when she wasn’t focused on family!! She took great pride in her work at Hudson’s, American Airlines, A&P, Stahl’s, and the Christmas Tree Store. She also cherished her vacations in Cape Cod and Mexico, but her real love was decorating her home and being a homemaker. Mom loved her family and friends, and cooking and crafting and listening to Frank Sinatra.
Even when she couldn’t help anymore, she wanted to … climb a ladder, plant flowers, run up to the bank, to the store, attend church, make a pie, deliver meals on wheels, talk on the phone, send cards, and the list goes on. Her energy, love and compassion for others will be missed dearly.
Her faith in God was strong and she appreciated God’s many blessings of family and friends.
The family will greet guests from 3:00pm to 8:00pm with a 7:00pm rosary service on Sunday, June 22, 2025 at Kaul Funeral Home, 35201 Garfield Rd., Clinton Twp., Michigan. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:00am on Monday, June 23 at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, 28301 Little Mack Ave., St. Clair Shores, Michigan. In state from 9:30am until time of mass. Private interment at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Detroit at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations may be directed to the American Cancer Society, a cause that was near and dear to Joanne’s heart.
