John was the older cool cousin that my younger brother and I always wanted to hang around with and visit with either at his home in Detroit or ours in Hammond. John had the best stuff, an actual steam engine model that worked on real steam. Plus we always enjoyed fishing with his dad Lester on their boat when we would visit. They visits were too infrequent and never long enough.

1963, that’s when I met John, at Klee’s bowling alley, where I also met my husband Jack, they were best friends.  Many adventures to be had in that fantastic hood of ours,  cruising the streets, hanging at the party stores,  A & W drive-in,  John’s love of cars, going to Canada to his parents cottage, He was our best man & my family loved him…we have lost another good man & friend..RIP John

Johnnie was my dad’s (John Stork) best friend dating way back, and while my dad was on the quieter side, Johnnie was the very talkative and hilarious one, like they say, opposites attract.  After my dad passed quite early in life, Johnnie remained an important part of ours.  His outgoing, spirited personality was always a comfort to me and I enjoyed and loved being around him.  He constantly made us laugh, and he brought up so many memories from the past that we so enjoyed listening to.  Johnnie will forever be in my heart and I miss him dearly.

I first met John when Jim and I were first dating back in the 60’s. 
The Viet Nam War and life after kept the distance between Jim and his buddies.  That didn’t stop them from staying close. 
John is at the heart of all those crazy stories about growing up and coming of age. Most involve cars and beer. Why they haven’t been turned into a movie is beyond me. 
Anyone hearing those stories, including they who tell the tales, laugh until tears come down there cheeks. The tears are still coming but for a different reason..
John was a cherished friend and he is missed but never will be forgotten. 

I was introduced to you there about 1956 and even though you were two years younger , I was impressed that you had quite a rap and was able to hold your ground with anyone.   We have remained friends ever since.   I left Michigan in 1989 but I was always able to stay in touch through you  and my other neighborhood friends.  I will miss you Johnny.

Johnny, I considered you my friend for 71 years. We may have been separated for many of those years, but when we got together it was like we were never apart. You were always a guy that I felt I could call in the middle of the night if I needed help right away. I will miss you, Johnny.

We came a long way together John. We will not forget you,my friend.
