Jack entered eternal life on September 2, 2024.
Jack, along with Bette, raised four daughters on a 17-acre farm. He loved his children and took delight in nurturing them. He cherished taking them to school each morning and to the many activities in which his daughters were involved.
Jack was fond of playing cards with his friends, golfing, telling a good joke, gardening on the farm and baking apple pies. He always had a special bond with his dogs.
Jack prayed often. He told his loved ones he prayed for them daily, and said prayers for those in his life who needed them.
He was known for his generosity of passing out apple pies. If you had an encounter with Jack, you were soon on his list to be the recipient of a delicious, warm pie.
In his youth he was an avid sportsman finding success in his early years with hockey, football, track and field. He won several county and state awards while attending St. Mary’s in Mount Clemens along with his twin brother Bill and older brother Ed. Jack received a full athletic scholarship to the University of Notre Dame to play football. He became a lifelong Fighting Irish football fan.
After graduating with a bachelor’s degree, he received his master’s degree in education from Eastern Michigan University. Jack taught in the Roseville Public Schools, St Mary’s Catholic in Mt Clemens, and was a Math teacher at L’Anse Creuse Middle School. He was also a counselor at L’Anse Creuse Central High School. His sense of humor was contagious. He often brought donuts into the classroom, and was loved by countless students.
In retirement he often came back into the classroom to read to elementary students, and supplied his teacher daughter’s classroom with pumpkins donated by a local farmer. Pumpkins for everyone this time of year…a hundred pumpkins passed out to the lucky kids. He treasured the fall season of apples, pumpkins, football, and changing colors on the trees.
Jack is predeceased by his darling daughter, Elizabeth “Beth” Nebel, his beloved identical twin brother William “Bill” Nebel, brother in-law John Hramiec, nephews Chris Hramiec, Edward Nebel and David Meyers, and his parents Sarah and Edward Nebel.
He is survived by second wife, Kathleen (Fields) and her children. His first wife Elizabeth “Bette” (Rivard), of whom they share four daughters. His surviving daughters he often called his darlings and guardian angels…Liesl (Chris) Bollaert and their children Caleb and Cade; Renate (Kenneth) Bernard and their children Sean, Nadia and Aidan; Katherine Nebel (Scott) Boomer and their children Vivian and Vaino; his beloved siblings, sister Katherine (Nebel) Hramiec and her children Mark, Sarah, Jennifer, Mary, David, Alison, and Paul, brother Dr Edward (Jackie) Nebel and his children Anne, Patty, and John, and sister-in-law Rosemary (Mueller) Nebel and her children Bill, Kitty, and Sally.
He had many grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Jack had countless friends. He was light hearted and had a twinkle in his eye and a charm that was legendary. Rest in peace, dear Dad. Your memory will live on in the hearts of those who shared countless laughs with you.
