John P. Vanderlinden, age 90, of Dunedin, Florida passed away on Tuesday, December 20, 2022. John was born in Detroit, MI on June 14, 1932 to Peter and Jeanette (Tillimans) Vanderlinden. Both precede him in death along with his brother. John is survived by his loving wife; Carolyn, his children; Cheryl Kosnick, Sue Vanderlinden, Jan McCoy, Matthew Vanderlinden, and Joel Vanderlinden, 11 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
John served his country in the United States Army during the Korean war and became a prisoner of war and surviving. John obtained a Bachelor's degree in Business that he received from the University of Detroit. After graduating, he worked as a purchasing agent for General Motors in the Chevrolet division.
John was a family man. He was a wonderful husband and father, he was gentle and ethical. He could always be quoted saying "Don't even take the eye of a needle if it doesn't belong to you." He was very giving and always there whenever his family needed him. In his free time, John liked to fish and play with his children when they were young. As they grew and started having kids of their own, he enjoyed playing with his grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by those who loved him.
A visitation for John will be held Wednesday, December 28, 2022 from 12-3 PM at Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park and Funeral Home, 2853 Sunset Point Road, Clearwater, Florida 33759. An additional visitation will be held Thursday, January 5, 2023 from 12 PM to 7 PM at Resurrection Funeral Home, 40800 Hayes Road, Clinton Township, Michigan 48038. Funeral mass will be held on Friday, January 6, 2023 at 9:30 AM at St. Michael Catholic Church, 40501 Hayes Road, Sterling Heights, Michigan 48313. The Vanderlinden family will greet visitors at 9 AM prior to the start of mass. Final resting place, Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan.
