Joseph Lucido, age 75, passed away on April 27, 2020. Born to Marco and Maria July 12, 1944 in Mateur Tunisia. He immigrated to the United States of America in May of 1960. Once here, he studied at Wayne State University, College for Creative Studies AKA The Art School of the Society of Arts and Crafts. Joe was certified as a commercial artist. He worked for various well-known advertising firms and agencies in Detroit as an illustrator, designer, and art director. From 1969 until 1970 Joe extended his knowledge to others and began teaching basic drawing classes at Macomb Community College. In the following years, he branched out to teach at The Pittsburgh Art Academy as well as evening adult classes at Lakeview and St. Clair Shores High Schools.
Even though his work as a commercial artist has been quite extensive, his repertoire as a fine arts painter has been equally extensive. Oil paint was Mr. Lucido’s prime medium. Although he did not stray away from working with acrylics and pastels as well. Aside from his numerous portrait commissions, his paintings have been exhibited all around town. Including: The Verve Gallery, The Continental Art Gallery in Dearborn, a two-man show at The Detroit International Institute, Palette and Brush Gallery in Detroit, General Motors Art Gallery, Rackham Building in Detroit, Detroit Artist Guild, Paint Creek Center in Rochester, Michigan Gallery, Giordano Gallery in Northville, Wolcott Mill Gallery, Warren City Building (where he won Best in Show), Starkweather Gallery in Romeo, Birmingham Bloomfield Art Association, and the Lapeer Art Gallery (where he won 1st place).
When he was not studying art in town he traveled to gain his knowledge. Studying art in Marseilles, France, aL’ecole Stephin Pichon; and the beloved Italy.
While Joseph was very talented in the arts, he was also very talented in string instruments. He also worked 15 years at 3M and Kay Automotive as their color designer and developer and then at GM as a clay modeler.
Joseph is survived by his beloved wife Carol; their cherished nieces and nephews Marie, Marc (Michelle), Jennine, and Louis (Anne); dear brother of the late Sam (Ida) and Bellonia; favorite uncle to Ina Anne and Joan; Joe is also survived by many other loving family members and friends.
