Laura G. Fron, the loving wife of the late Leonard C. Fron (1934-2019) for over 60 years, Laura was the cherished mother of Luane (Aaron) McWhorter, Leonard G. Fron, and Laurence (Duyen Le) Fron. Adoring grandmother of Whitney (Josh), Sandra (Justin), Amanda (Mike), Ethan, Nicole (Drew), Samantha, Ariana, and Lukan. Proud great-grandmother of Sienna, Adela, Minka, Crue, Kellin, Ember and Zoey.
After a brief time as a stenographer/bookkeeper for Household Finance Corporation, Laura left the workforce to be a full-time homemaker for her children. Within her family and extended family, Laura was legendary as a skilled and meticulous cook and baker – with several of her children and grandchildren attempting to match her wonderful meals and desserts for their families using her recipes to this day.
As the last of her children reached the late teens Laura went to work for the Dayton Hudson Department Store Corporation first as temporary Christmas help, then hired in as a contingent, and later full-time salesperson at Hudson’s Oakland Mall and then Hudson’s Twelve Oaks – Novi. Her traits as a “people person” and genuinely kind demeanor made her a natural as a salesperson and beloved co-worker of many. She retired in 1998 and moved to enjoy life in St. Petersburg, Florida with her husband until they returned to the Detroit area to be near their sons in 2018.
Laura was a huge sports fan and never gave up on her Lions, Tigers, Red Wings and U of M Football/Basketball (GO BLUE!) even after moving out of state. One of her teams losing any game on a bad call or a botched play was enough to cause her to lose sleep that night and let everyone hear about it the next day! She spent her final years almost exclusively watching any sport that was live on television including tennis, golf, ice skating tournaments, of course all the Olympics programming she could get – even The Little League Baseball World Series. She always picked an individual or team to root for and it always seemed to be more about the interest in people and the joy of seeing them succeed than anything.
Laura was born March 16, 1937 in Detroit Michigan to Edmund Sobocinski and Anna (Zajac) Sobocinski. Laura grew up in the old Del Ray neighborhood in southwest Detroit (Polish Quarter) with her older brother Edmund and twin sister Loretta both of whom preceded her in death. She graduated from Our Lady of Lourdes High School – River Rouge in 1954.
Visitation will be held at Resurrection Funeral Home, 40800 Hayes Road in Clinton Township, on April 15, 2026, from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm with a Rosary said at 6:00 pm.
In State will be held at St. Michael Catholic Community, 40501 Hayes Road in Sterling Heights, on April 16, 2026, from 9:00 am to 9:30 am, followed by a Funeral Mass at 9:30 am.
