It is with deep sorrow that the family announces the passing of Lawrence B. Meyer, known to most as “Larry,” aged 74, who passed away peacefully on January, 11, 2026. Larry was born on May 24, 1951 to Jack and Elaine Meyer in Detroit, Michigan. Larry graduated from Wayne State University in 1974. He began his life-long career in law enforcement in 1976 where he helped provide a safer Wayne County and City of Detroit for nearly 50 years. Larry was a leader amongst his peers. His earnest and stoic nature captivated many, especially those of whom looked up to him. Larry quickly moved up in ranks throughout his tenure at the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, ultimately achieving the role as the Undersheriff. After his retirement with Wayne County, Larry was recruited back to the Sherriff’s Office as the Chief of Operations. Shortly after, Larry joined the Detroit Police Department where he retired as Assistant Chief. Following his retirement from the Detroit Police Department, he took on the role as the Director of Homeland Security and Emergency Management for the City of Detroit. It was during this time he also became the Coordinator of the Wayne County and City of Detroit Violent Crime Reduction Initiative where he tirelessly worked with partners to drive crime down. Above all—Larry prided himself on living up to his hardened Italian roots and put God, Family, and work first—always. Aside from work life, Larry had a deep passion for classic football and iconic movies. There was never a missed opportunity to quote The God Father or discuss the Lions making it to the Super Bowl.
Larry is survived by his beloved wife, Urszula; his daughters Tracey Meyer and Julie (Kenny) Schwartz; his stepson Kenneth (Richelle Navarro) Kluba; and his grandchildren, Jack and Makenna, both of whom he loved so dearly and enjoyed having family dinners with.
A Memorial Gathering will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at Resurrection Funeral Home, located at 40800 Hayes Road in Clinton Township. The gathering will take place from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
