Leslie John Flaga peacefully entered the Kingdom on Saturday, January 29, 2022 at the age of 86. He was born in Mt. Clemens, Michigan on September 5, 1935, and was the son of the late John J and Catherine V. (Cleaver) Flaga.
Les was raised in Macomb Township and a 1953 graduate of St. Mary’s High School in Mt. Clemens. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1957.
He married his wife Sylvia A. Borg on August 1, 1964 at Assumption Grotto in Detroit. Together they celebrated 57 years of marriage and made their home in Fraser, Michigan.
Les was an active and dedicated member of St. Ronald’s Parish. He served his church family and community in many areas. Les was an EME, money counting angel, finance chairman of the Festivals for many years and assisted at the Fish Fry’s as well. He also was an avid fan of Joni James, the singer. Les collected many of her albums over the years and enjoyed listening to them. An occasional trip to the nearby casino was a treat he enjoyed alone, or with family and friends. He was proud of his 10 consecutive year record of the Labor Day Walk across the “Big Mac” Bridge from 1987 to 1996.
Les had many employment experiences over the years. They included United Bulb Company, Kinney Shoes, General Motors (Pontiac), Mt Clemens Savings Bank, (Huntington Bank) and Enterprise Car Rental.
Les was an avid Classic Car Enthusiast and collector. He attended Car shows and Cruises with his children. He especially loved it when he showing off his own car. In his travels, Les was able to visit 46 out of the 50 states of the U.S. as well as much of Europe, during his military service in Germany. He was a man that walked with the Lord, and help shine God’s light on others. Les was quiet, humble and always there to help someone in need.
He will be dearly missed by his wife of 57 years, Sylvia; children Laura (Jeff) Hope and Jeffery Flaga. Les leaves behind his sisters, Shirley Roland, Mary Jane (Ken) DeCeuninck, Barbara (Chuck) Peltier and Phyllis (Hank) Miller. He also has a sister–in-law Joy Flaga and Aunt Martina Flaga. Les was an Uncle, Great-Uncle and Great-Great-Uncle to many nieces and nephews. He also had numerous cousins. Les will also be missed by 4 legged friends; Payton, Avery, Dolce and Abbey.
He was predeceased by his parents, his son Derek J. Flaga; brother, Joseph A. Flaga and an infant brother, John.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday February, 8, 2022 from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm, with a rosary at 7:00 pm at Kaul Funeral Home, 35201 Garfield Rd., Clinton Twp., MI 48035. A funeral mass with visitation on Wednesday, February 09, 2022 at 10:00 am with a funeral service immediately following at 10:30 am at St. Ronald Catholic Church, 17701 15 Mile Rd., Clinton Twp., MI 48035
