Lois L. Creagh (Wilson) was born on November 24, 1928 in Detroit, Michigan. She wed her childhood sweetheart, Charles Creagh, in 1948 and resided in a house they built in East Detroit (now Eastpointe) for 69 years. Lois celebrated her 73-year marriage to Charles just one week prior to her passing. Their union resulted in 3 children, 9 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren. She was a loving mother to Carol (Keith) Young, Keith (Laska) Creagh, and Timothy (Trish) Creagh.
Beloved grandmother to Jason (Jennifer) Young, Jennifer (Andrew) Follett, Justin (Sara) Young, Matthew Creagh, Rebecca (James) Larkin, Heather (Josh) Masden, Daniel (Katie) Creagh, Maggi (Mike) Forgue, and Reiley (Tom) Curran.
Caring great grandmother to Isaac Young, Eli Young, Grace Young, Hailey Waurio, Paul Follett, Paul Curran, Bryce Masden, Wayne Forgue, Lewis Curran, Charlie Forgue, Bree Masden, Daniel Curran, Eleanor Larkin, and another on the way. Loving sister to Rose Fulkerson. Lois is preceded in death by her daughter, Carol Young.
Family was extremely important to Lois. She was intimately involved with her family, always interested in what was happening in their lives and encouraging them to reach their goals. She enthusiastically attended more than her fair share of grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s baseball games, basketball games, soccer matches, dance recitals, and many other events. Her love of children was evident to all who met her. Lois always had a smile on her face and a hug ready. Lois loved to cook and bake for her family. As grandchildren went off to college, they always looked forward to the mail which brought a box of homemade cookies from Grandma.
Lois and Charlie loved to vacation, mostly on camping trips. In the early years it was tent camping, but eventually they graduated to a pop-up trailer. Over the years, they travelled the continent extensively, even spending 6 weeks camping in Alaska. Lois passed her love of nature, travel and adventure on to both her children and grandchildren. When each grandchild reached 12 years of age, they were able to plan a summer vacation with Grandma and Grandpa to the place of their choice. The trip not only brought them immense memories of great times with grandparents, but also taught them about budgeting, planning, and mapping out a trip.
One of Lois’ hobbies was wood working. She was an extremely talented wood carver. Her passion was carving birds, flowers, and walking sticks. Her work was very life-like and detailed. She would run quality control and finishing for all Charlie’s projects for their family’s hand-crafted gifts.
Lois was a founding member of the Otsikita Girl Scout Council in Macomb County in 1957. During her 50+ years of volunteering with the organization she held positions at the troop level (leader), neighborhood level (neighborhood chairman), and Council level. She is a past President of the Council and was an Officer on the Board of Directors for many years, where she was instrumental in the purchase and development of two camps, fundraising campaigns, and ensuring the Council was fiscally sound. Her love of children and the belief that girls should be in leadership positions and grow to their full potential kept her dedicated to the cause for many, many years.
She will be greatly missed but has left an enduring legacy to her loving family. “Mothers hold their children’s hand for a while but their hearts forever.” Our mother was an angel on earth and is now one in Heaven.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Girl Scouts of Southeast Michigan.
