Lucille was born and raised in Rogers City, Michigan. After graduating from Rogers City High School in 1955, she spent three years with the Sisters of Mercy in Detroit. She went on to graduate from Siena Heights College in 1961 with a degree in philosophy and teaching. For 17 years she taught at St. Angela School in Roseville and St. Veronica School in Eastpointe.
In 1963 she married Edward Benoit of Roseville and they have five children. She loved to play cards, sports, gardening, watercolor painting, reading and learning, but her faith and her family were the focus of her life. At St. Thecla’s, she was in the choir and a member of the Christian Mothers. She also taught religion for about 30 years.
Preceded in death by her husband, she is survived by her children, Marybeth Stockdale, Donna Killebrew (Andy), Michele Silagy (Ron), Ed Jr. (Tiphanie), and John (Christine); grandchildren Tom, Garrett and Alex Stockdale, Emily and Jack Silagy, Ethan Benoit, and Alivia and Stephanie Johnson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Emily and Joseph Smolinski, sisters Blanche Pilarski, Martha Abbott, Mary Ann Alverson, Angeline Borough, and brothers David, Edwin, Alphonse and Clarence. She is survived by her sisters, Evelyn Paulus, Dolores Dorer, and brother Stanley.
A visitation for Lucille will be held Tuesday, July 5, 2022 from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Kaul Funeral Home, 35201 Garfield Rd, Clinton Township, MI 48035. Instate will be Wednesday, July 6, 2022 from 9:30 am until the Funeral Mass at 10:00 am at St. Thecla Catholic Church, 20740 S Nunneley Rd, Clinton Township, MI 48035. Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery, Clinton Township.
