What a special lady and a special friend to me, for many years. Mary lou contributed so much to the Greater Lansing area and beyond and we will be forever grateful. I remember when she was inducted to the Michigan Women's Hall of Fame....she deserved this and SO MUCH MORE. Such a Pioneer, a way maker for so many....the Hispanic population is better because of Mary Lou. She is loved and will be greatly missed❤❤❤

Mary Lou & I met while working at the state MDCR department as Civil Rights investigators during an EOC training session. We had recently both lost our fathers, were single & shared a Catholic back-ground & outrageous senses of humor. We grew to love one another. It did not matter how long we were apart when we talked or were together it was like yesterday. I enjoyed her family. I miss her already, so my heart goes out to John & her family. RIP my friend!

Marylou was a person who persevered relentlessly to better the lives of Hispanics throughout Michigan. She faced great obstacles during her career but with grace, excellence and a deep commitment she overcame them. She was passionate about inequality, an activist for social justice. She inspired and empowered. A true leader. She will be missed.

I met MaryLou at when I work for Saginaw Public Schools Migrant Program. I look up to her. She was beautiful, smart and humble. Then I met up with her again years later. She came to my family business Vargas Tortillas and she told me she was a long time friend of my father. She would always tell to say hello to my dad. Sometimes he be at the store. She come every so often to shop. My heart goes out to her love ones. RIP MaryLou 🙏🏼🙏🏼✝️✝️💕

Marylou, thank you for helping so many of us recognize our sense of "somebodyness". Thank you for making us feel as if we too belong in the upper levels of leadership roles in corporate America as well as the communities in which we live. Thank you for teaching us the right and the wrong. Thank you for always teaching us as we saw you live your life. Thank you for fighting the fight for us. Some of us saw you up close. Some of us admired you from a distance. But we all knew we had a friend in you as we toiled in the rich fields of Michigan farms or in the vast offices of major corporations or from the dais of elected leadership. We thank God for giving you the conviction and strength for all the good you did. We thank God for now calling on you to come home and embrace the rest you have earned. Gracias por todo lo que hiciste . Eternal rest grant onto Marylou Oh Lord. Let perpetual light shine upon her.
