Marilyn Helene O'Brien of Fraser, Michigan, aged 85, passed peacefully on April 9, 2026. Born on December 29, 1940, in Detroit, Michigan, she was the beloved daughter of Christopher and Helen (Ritter) O’Brien. Marilyn lived a vibrant and fulfilling life, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew her.
Marilyn, after retiring from a long career at NBD Bank (now Chase), dedicated her retirement to pursuing her passions. Her warm and sociable personality made her a beloved presence in her community, where she was affectionately known as "everyone’s Aunt."
Marilyn was an enthusiastic fan of the Detroit Tigers, and a devoted supporter of both the Detroit Red Wings and the Lions. She also had a deep passion for traveling, cherishing the memories she created and filling photo albums with snapshots of her journeys.
A parishioner at St. Malachy Catholic Church in Sterling Heights, Marilyn’s Catholic faith was important to her. Her creativity was evident in her passion for holiday decorating, baking cookies and desserts, and events at her apartment complex. She helped coordinate activities such as Wii Bowling tournaments, Pokeno games, coffee hours, and other gatherings that encouraged connection among neighbors.
Her playful spirit charmed everyone she encountered—whether through her storytelling, her collection of whimsical earrings and jewelry, or her love for Elvis Presley. Marilyn also delighted in simple pleasures, like sipping a Rum & Coke Zero or Baileys on ice while sharing laughter with family and friends.
Marilyn is lovingly survived by her family, including sister-in-law Joyce; her nephew Joseph and partner Shannon and great nephew Gabe; nephew Sean and wife Christie; great-nieces Laura and her partner Adam and great-great-nephew Keegan, Angelina and her partner Dallas, Alyssa; and great-nephew Logan and wife Grace.
She is also survived by her cousin Carolyn and husband Jim. She was preceded in death by her younger brother Joseph.
Marilyn’s legacy is one of love, laughter, and unwavering kindness. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have known her. May she rest in peace surrounded by the same warmth she so generously shared throughout her lifetime.
The funeral viewing will take place on Monday, April 13, at Kaul Funeral Home from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Marilyn will be cremated afterward, and her ashes will be buried later this year next to her brother at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Cemetery in Lewiston, Michigan.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Michigan Anti-Cruelty Society in memory of Marilyn O’Brien.
