Michael J. Ondra, a man of deep faith, unwavering dedication, and a heart full of love, passed away peacefully on January 29, 2025 at the age of 81. A devoted husband, father, and friend, Michael lived a life centered on service—to his family, his community, and his faith.
Michael’s faith was the foundation of his life. He dedicated himself to his church, finding purpose and joy in his spiritual journey. His love for God guided his actions, and he served as a pillar of strength and kindness to those around him.
Michael’s commitment to service extended beyond his faith. In 1971 he began his career as a firefighter medic with the Shelby Township Fire Department, a role he fulfilled with courage and compassion. For decades, he selflessly protected and cared for others, retiring in 1998 after years of dedicated service.
Beyond his work, Michael had many passions. A talented musician, he was a gifted singer and played multiple brass instruments, including the trumpet, trombone, and baritone. His love for music brought joy to those who had the privilege of hearing him play. He was also an avid golfer, finding peace and camaraderie on the course.
Above all, Michael was a devoted family man. He found his greatest joy in the love he shared with his wife, children, grandchildren, and extended family. His kindness, laughter, and unwavering support will be deeply missed but forever treasured.
Michael was the loving husband of Paula for 61 years. The beloved father of Suzanne (David) Hendrickson, David (Jerusha) Ondra, and Todd (Dianna) Ondra. He was the cherished grandfather of David Jr. (Erin), Sydney, Carley, the late Collin, Ethan, Luke, and Ayla. He was the proud great grandfather of Charlie and Ada. He was the dear brother of the late Dennis Ondra and the late Ona Mae McClain and the brother-in-law of Susan Battisti. He was also the loving uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Michael’s life was a testament to faith, service, and love. His impact will never be forgotten.
