Orville H. Baier, age 99, died February 27, 2018. Beloved husband of the late Jamie. Loving father of Albert George (Karen) Baier, Jamie Bonita Baier, Morel (the late Jim) Salusky, the late Marie Jill Baier, Mickie Baier, Marie Celeste (Steve) Triner, and Nancy (Roger) Hynes. Dearest grandfather of Aaron, Ethan, Jordan, and Caroline. Dear brother of Regina (the late Clarence) Delmotte. Orville was predeceased by his siblings Mildred Stayton, Clifford, Harry, Alvin, and Floyd. A few thoughts about Dad. He was truly a son of the Motor City: he loved to drive, loved to work on cars and his truck. He liked nothing more than figuring out how things worked and took some well-deserved pride in fixing almost anything. He loved to share that knowledge, although Mom once mentioned that maybe what he really liked was showing off how smart he was! He taught us that anything worth doing was worth doing well. As a member of the Great Generation, He proudly served in WWII in the United States Army and fought in a war against tyranny and hatred, served three years in the jungles of the Pacific front where he contracted malaria which recurred occasionally for years. But the same war also brought him Mom, the love of his life. Theirs was a love story for the ages and that love never faded or faltered. They were truly soulmates. What he loved most was family. He and Mom created a life for us that was as perfect as you could ever hope for. I have wonderful memories of an idyllic childhood and a happy home. His lasting legacy is the children who try to live up to his example by making the world a better place in whatever way we can. He always knew that a life well-lived is its own reward and now his reward is to dwell in the infinite love and grace of heaven. Anyone in his life is better for having known him. Our world is diminished, however heaven is rejoicing. Visitation Friday, March 2, 2018 from 1 pm until time of service at 6 pm at Resurrection Funeral Home, 40800 Hayes, Clinton Township, Michigan. The family wishes to extend an invitation for continued fellowship and a dinner to take place at 7 pm at the Mirage Banquet Center, 16980 18 Mile Road, Clinton Township, Michigan.
