R. Marlin Sumner passed away on September 4, 2018 at the age of 87. He was the loving husband of Karla Sumner for 62 years. Beloved father of Debra Weishaar, Karen (Joseph) Voytush, and Scott (Margaret) Sumner. Dear grandpa of Dana (Jared Whitehill) Usndek, Adam (Jill) Usndek, Scott Voytush, Matthew Voytush, Ellen Sumner, and Kay Sumner. Cherished papa of Elliot Whitehill.
Marlin was a 1957 graduate of Purdue University with a degree in Civil Engineering. He was a retired Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserves. He was a pilot and a flight instructor for 19 years. Marlin retired from the City of St. Clair Shores after 28 years as the Director of Community Service. He dedicated 20 years to Anderson Eckstein and Westrick Inc. following his time with the city. He was an active member of Lake Shore Presbyterian Church and the Ban-Joe’s of Michigan.
Visitation will take place on Sunday, September 9, 2018 from 3 to 8pm at Resurrection Funeral Home, 40800 Hayes Road in Clinton Township. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday at 11am at Lake Shore Presbyterian Church, 27801 Jefferson Ave. in St. Clair Shores. Friends may visit the church on Monday beginning at 10:30am. Interment will take place at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan.
