Richard Henry Deneau, 97, passed away peacefully on April 23, 2022. Visitation will be on Wednesday, April 27, 2022 from 3:30 pm until 8pm with a Rosary Service at 7pm, at Kaul Funeral Home, 35201 Garfield Road. In state on Thursday, April 28, 2022 at 10:30am until 11:00am, time of funeral mass, at St. Michaels Catholic Community of Sterling Heights, 40501 Hayes Rd, Sterling Heights, MI 48313. Burial will take place at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly.
Richard was born February 16, 1925, in Detroit, Michigan to Kenneth and Adele (Brunner) Deneau and lived and worked in the Detroit area his entire life. He graduated from East Commerce High School and, after serving in World War II, from Wayne State University. He had a long-distinguished career with the Internal Revenue Service followed by a long and active retirement.
After his active duty in World War II, Richard served in the Naval Reserve retiring at the rank of Commander. He was an active in the Catholic church, first with St Isaac Jogues parish in St. Clair Shores and most recently with St. Michaels Catholic Community. Richard spent many years volunteering as a leader with the Boy Scouts of America.
Richard is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Geraldine (Ayotte), and by his children and their spouses: Thomas & Gul, Gary & Lynn, Deborah & Ron, Stephen & Julie, Kenneth & Kathleen, and Philip, and by fifteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death was his son Matthew, and all seven of his younger siblings; James, Joyce, Carol, Audrey, William, Patricia, and Judith.
