Rick built a life defined by steady devotion and deep appreciation for time spent with others. More than any pastime or pursuit, he simply loved being with people, and that gift for gathering and welcoming others could be felt in the warmth of his family’s traditions - especially the huge holiday parties that brought loved ones together year after year.
Rick served in the Army during the Vietnam War, a chapter of his life remembered with respect and gratitude. He also dedicated 41 years of hard work and reliability to AT&T, retiring on December 31, 2014.
On April 28, 1978, Rick married Kathleen in Harper Woods. Together, they shared a life enriched by the simple joys that meant the most to him - bowling, baseball, boating, and camping. Interlochen held a special place in his heart, where almost the whole extended family camped every year, and where Rick himself returned again and again, camping every two weeks.
Rick also cherished his beloved dog, Smokey, his faithful companion.
Visitation will be held at Kaul Funeral Home, 35201 Garfield Rd, Clinton Township, MI 48035, US, on Thursday, November 12, 2026, from 2pm to 8pm, with military honors taking place at 6pm.
