Richard was born on October 16, 1939, in Detroit, Michigan, to his parents, Delbert Vernon and Martha Rose (née Ritter) Stallwood. He was raised in Detroit, where he graduated from high school before continuing his education in trade school. Richard went on to build a long and dedicated career in the skilled trades, working for Chrysler for 38 years until his retirement in 2003.
On May 25, 1962, Richard married the love of his life, Dione Yvonne Bach, at St. Catherine Catholic Church in Detroit. Together, they shared nearly 64 years of marriage, raising two sons and creating a life centered on love, devotion, and family. Everything Richard did was for those he cared about most.
A loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Richard was also a longtime member of St. Isadore Church. In his free time, he found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved nature and sightseeing, often feeding squirrels and birds, and spending cherished time at his cottage up north and at Higgins Lake. He enjoyed peaceful walks along the beach and took special pleasure in memorable cruises with his wife, including trips to Alaska as well as warm destinations. Richard was also known for his skill and talent in home improvement projects, always ready to lend a hand.
Above all, Richard’s greatest joy was his family, with whom he shared countless meaningful moments and lasting memories.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Dione Yvonne Stallwood; his sons, Richard William Stallwood and his family—Crystal and son Noah, Katherine, Richard, and Alyssa—and David Lawrence Stallwood, wife Tara, and their family—Elizabeth and Haley. He is also survived by his sisters, Kathleen and Martha “Snooks.”
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Delbert and Martha Stallwood.
Funeral services will be private.
