Richard was born on May 1, 1954, in Detroit Michigan, to Richard Sr and Jennie Streit. He graduated from Osborn High School in Detroit in 1972. He went to work for Michigan Bell and worked there for 22 years. He was a Volunteer Fire Chief in Secord Township where he owned property and a cottage. Then he became a proud police officer and worked for the City of Saginaw, Michigan. His last position was head of security for Martin Health Systems in Port St Lucie Florida. He definitely was a man of many trades. He held a builder’s license, inspection certified, Reality license and who knows what else.
He found tremendous value in helping the youth in his community. He was a DARE educator, and provided guidance, love, and opportunity to those children around him were always important in his life. Richard also was an emergency Foster parent for several years.
Richard was a devout Catholic. He served as a Eucharistic Minister, and was a member of Knights of Columbus for 40 years, he achieved 4th Degree Knight status.
At times in his life he was basketball referee, loved fishing, a hunter, coach, carpenter and mentor. He enjoyed traveling with family and especially waterfowl hunting with his family and friends.
He was there to lend a helping hand, a listening ear, and a loving heart. There isn’t anyone, stranger or friend he wouldn’t help anyway he could. His ultimate gift to this world was letting others know there wasn’t anything they could not accomplish, but also never forgetting to give back.
Richard was a loving Son, Brother, Uncle, Cousin, Nephew, and friend. He was the oldest of four children. He is survived by his mother Jennie, Brothers, James (Sherry) and Gary (Joann), Sister Susan Debski, Nephews, James, Donald (Veronica), and Matthew. Nieces, Karissa (Anthony) Fortuna, Jessica (Michael) Kleinecke, and Great niece Catherine Kleinecke. He is also survived by many loving cousins, family members.
