Richard was born September 20, 1929 in Detroit, MI. In the early years his values were influenced by the events of the Great Depression and World War II. He was a humble and proud veteran, a Purple Heart recipient, and one who served in Korea and later in Germany.
He was an outdoorsman who loved Michigan hunting and fishing, and enjoyed sharing his love of the outdoors with his children and grandchildren.
Richard’s craftsmanship as a tool & die journeyman influenced all that he did with his hands and with his learned skill he was able to mentor others. He took pride in excellent work.
Richard was a devout Detroit Tigers and Detroit Lions fan, one who always knew the scores and game highlights. An avid reader for most of his life, he always looked forward to the steady exchange of books set aside for him by the Public Library librarians in the communities he lived.
His dedications were always strong, his opinions easily shared, yet not easily swayed. He was simple, direct, firm and clear. In addition, he took tremendous pride in his ability to be independent, yet he cherished his role as a caring companion and family patriarch. Richard was always the mentor and teacher and blessed with simple actions and words.
He was preceded in death by first wife Beatrice, his sons Richard, Donald and Thomas, and his step son Rick.
He is survived by his wife Barbara and children: Mike and Joy Supanich of Holland and Susan LaFreniere of MaComb Twp., MI; step-children: Karen and Gary Laskowski of Clinton Twp., MI, Rob and Deb Jenkins of Sterling Heights, MI, Kathy Walczak of Warren, MI, Ed and Judy Jenkins of Florida and Jack Jenkins of Hillman, MI; 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will take place on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at 1pm at Resurrection Funeral Home, 40800 Hayes Road in Clinton Township. Friends may visit the funeral home beginning at 11am on Saturday.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Hospice of Holland or Medilodge Holland.
