Roland Walton

Roland was born in Detroit, Michigan, on April 4th, 1958, to Charliemea and Mose Willie Walton. He was a dedicated, baptized Jehovah’s Witness, finding deep meaning, purpose, peace and hope in Jehovah’s promises, community, and comfort in his faith.

Roland lived a life defined by quiet strength, unwavering creativity, and a vivid imagination. Although for many years he worked as a skilled Sheetmetal Journeyman. Roland was known best for his love and passion for art, it was how he experienced the world. Gifted with a rare and wonderful talent, he brought the world to life through his stunning paintings and drawings. Spending countless hours even, designing characters, and unique worlds of his own creation. His home was filled with sketchbooks, art supplies, and an ever-growing collection of books that fueled his curiosity and sharpened his craft.

In addition, he enjoyed watching movies, some of his favorites were superheroes and westerns. He especially enjoyed watching movies with his friends and family. Music was another quiet joy in his life. His warm singing voice could be heard harmonizing to kingdom melodies and timeless Motown classics.

Though naturally reserved and content to keep to himself, Roland was respected and loved in communities he became a part of. His kindness was often expressed not through many words but through his gentle presence, thoughtful conversations, and the artwork he so generously shared with others.

After recovering from a terrible fall on the job in the fall of 2021, Roland devoted his time and effort to increase his activity in the ministry, spend more time with his family, and develop meaningful friendships, and fall in love again with creating beautiful paintings. His creativity, faith, and unique artistry leave behind a legacy that will be forever admired and remembered by those who loved him.

Roland is survived by his children, Jasmine (Michael), Nicolas (Haydee), and Abriana, and their mother, Andrea Lynn. He leaves behind his sister, V’Essel Henderson; his four brothers, Ellis Johnson (April), Quentin Walton (Connie), MW Walton (Cynthia), and Ephraim Walton (Muriel); as well as a host of loving nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

Roland was preceded in death by his parents, Charliemae and Mose Willie Walton, and his sister, Carolyn Walton.
