Born and raised in Warren, Michigan, Ron was the beloved son of the late Robert and Perla Smith. He built a meaningful career as a Controls Engineer, combining a sharp mind with a dedicated work ethic. Ron was strong in faith and a member of the St. Michael’s Choir for over 25 years.
Outside of work, Ron knew exactly how to enjoy life’s simple pleasures. He was happiest with a guitar in his hands, playing music that brought people together, and enjoying a warm Busch beer. Ron enjoyed golfing, especially when he attended the annual Cousins Golf Outing at Crystal Mountain. He enjoyed playing Euchre with his family of friends. More than anything, Ron lived for family gatherings. He was his grandchildren’s biggest fan, never missing an opportunity to watch Rhett play football and baseball, or to see Leah at her cheerleading events and softball games. Ron loved spending time at his home on Houghton Lake. His days there were busy picking up sticks in the yard, stopping the ice cream truck for an afternoon snack, and watching sunsets with Kay and the family.
Ron’s legacy of love, warmth, and music will be carried on by his devoted wife of 53 years, Kay; his son, Drew; daughter-in-law, Theresa; and his cherished grandchildren, Rhett and Leah. He will be fondly remembered by his bonus son, Kirk Robinson (Brittney). Ron is also survived by his brother, Gerald (Julia), his sister, Roberta, brothers-in-law, Dean Bush (Jill) and Mark Bush (Cathy), and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Perla, in-laws, Martin and Mildred Bush, and his beloved son, Douglas, with whom he is now reunited.
