Born July 28th, 1980, in Pontiac, Michigan, Ryan was the beloved son of Shirley Cook and Robert Wilmot. He grew up in Mount Clemens, Michigan and Mesa, Arizona and attended L’Anse Creuse High School in Harrison Township, where he graduated in 1999.
From a young age, Ryan was an imaginative and animated spirit— he practiced Taekwondo, loved to draw, act, and make home movies with his mom (and sometimes his hesitant sister). Throughout his life, Ryan had a deep passion for music— he loved to sing, to dance and to go to concerts with friends. He also loved cooking, and playing pickleball.
In high school, he found a passion for cross country and joined the team and lettered. He also proudly served in the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps and completed basic military training with the Navy Recruit Training Command at Great Lakes.
After being awarded a scholarship, Ryan went on to pursue higher education at Doña Ana Community College in New Mexico. This led to a fulfilling career as a Wastewater Treatment Operator. Ryan was ceaselessly dependable and proficient in his work and ever-willing dedicate his time.
One of Ryan's happiest places on Earth was Comerica Park, surrounded by close family and friends, especially his best friend (his “brother,” Marty). Whether cheering during a thrilling victory or holding hope in defeat, Ryan’s big heart and loyalty never wavered. He adored the stadium, the crowd, and the memories made alongside the people he cherished most.
A self-proclaimed minimalist, Ryan kept little for himself, but when it came to others, he gave freely and generously. He was the kind of friend, son, and brother who would drop everything to help. His family will forever be grateful for his constant love, acceptance, and steady presence.
Ryan is survived by his loving mother and stepfather, Shirley and Gerald Cook of Bloomfield Hills, his sister, Kelly Alquiza, whom he loved and protected since the day she was born, and his brother-in-law, Jamie Alquiza. He is preceded in death by his father, Robert Wilmot.
There will be a Celebration of Life held on July 27th, 2025 at Social Space Rochester, 324 East St, Rochester, MI 48307, from 12 pm to 3 pm.
