Sarah E Stapels

Sarah (little Bit) Stapels age 31 of Sterling Heights succumbed to breathing complications September 27th, 2010 garnered from chemical exposure 5 years ago while conducting research. Survived by her parents Gregory and Judith, siblings Scott (Julie), Christopher (Martha), Theresa, Michael, Victoria, Stepmother Kathy (Chuck) nieces Madison, Amelia, nephews Jonah, Aiden, and friends and family. She grew up in Sterling Heights attending Henry Ford II HS, and studying dance at Mary Skiba’s.

She was an avid SCUBA diver and taught at US SCUBA center in Rochester. She graduated from Michigan State University and continued with PHD studies in Cancer Biology at Wayne State University. During her research she co-authored 3 of papers including Localization of a substrate binding domain of the human reduced folate carrier to transmembrane domain 11 by radioaffinity labeling and cysteine-substituted accessibility methods.

She has spent the last 5 years fighting the effects of her chemical exposure with the strength of a warrior and sometimes the mouth of a sailor.

Visitation Friday 2pm - 8 pm with a prayer service at 7pm at Resurrection Funeral Home -. In state Saturday 11 a.m. until 11:30 Mass at St. Michael Catholic Community, 40501 Hayes Road, Sterling Heights.
