Triner, Steven, age 67, of Clinton Township, passed away on January 13, 2019. He was the beloved husband of Celeste (Baier) Triner; Loving father of Steven Scott Triner, Erica Lynn Triner, and Jordan Abraham Triner; Cherished grandfather of Steven Alexander Triner; Dear brother of Wayne (Leslie) Triner and Gail (Carter) Kaneen.
Steve Triner was a good man. He was generous to a fault, a loyal and faithful friend. Everyone who met him was a better person for having known him. He was a wonderful husband and a caring father. He loved his family and was very proud of his wonderful children.
He became a police officer in 1973 and was dedicated to his profession. He was in Manchester, MA, for 6 months, then was hired in Fraser as a Public Safety Officer. He was promoted to Sergeant in 1981. He retired as Lieutenant in charge of Patrol Division in 2002.
Although he had owned other motorcycles, he bought his first Harley-Davidson, a peace officer special edition Ultra-Classic in 1996. He loved riding and in 2008 took Jordan on a cross-country motorcycle trip. We called it the “as long as…” trip because he would call and tell me where they were and I would say, “As long as you’re … you may as well go ….” The “as long as…” got them to the most northwestern tip of the continental United States. Ten years later, this past summer, they took the trip again, this time with Jordan on his own motorcycle.
Steve worked at Wolverine Harley-Davidson, as a Macomb County blue coat, and a 41-B District Court Officer. He would come home and say he missed being on the road. I said, “I am not listening to that the rest of my life. Go get hired somewhere.”
Steve was fortunate to be hired by the Troy Police Department in March, 2013. He was a 62-year-old rookie and could not have been happier. He loved his years on the road there.
He retired – again – in March, 2018, and began planning his next motorcycle trip, the one he took this last summer, not knowing it would be his last.
He said the only job he would ever consider was being Judge Lucido’s Court Officer again. While on his trip, Judge Lucido offered him the job and he was happy to get back to it.
I know he shared so much of himself with so many people. I hope you will take a moment to share a memory with all of us.
As you might have guessed, Steve was not much of a flower person, so in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Steve’s honor to the Wounded Warriors Project or the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund in Washington, D.C.
