Play Tribute Movie

Thomas Orlando Granberry (Lani), was born on April 7, 1988 and died unexpectedly on November 18, 2021 at the age of 33.

Lani is survived by his children, Tatiana, Nevaeh, and Thomas Jr (TJ); his parents, Luecricia Granberry and Wardell Granberry; his brother, Leylan Mitchell; and his cousins who were like siblings to him; Alphonso (Al), Jr., Arnett, Cecily, Danielle, Joseph, Nicholas (Nick), Kathleen (Kat), Robert, Ronald (Ronnie), Stephanie, Sophia, and Veronica. He is also survived by his aunties and uncles, and numerous friends. He is predeceased by his grandparents, Arnett and Virginia Edwards, and Kathleen Perry.

Lani, also known as Tom, was a loving child and the pride of his mother and father, who stood by him and supported him throughout his life. He had a very close relationship with his cousins and was looked up to by them. Growing up Lani was protective of his younger cousins and is remembered for showing off his WWE “SmackDown” skills and was the first to do a flip on the trampoline. As he grew into his teens and beyond, he enjoyed gaming, bowling, and developed an interest in computers. Before his death he shared his plan to attend Macomb Community College to pursue his interests in computer technology. Music was another passion of Lani’s and he listened to artists like Tupac, DMX, E-40 and Jay-Z. He was a patient listener regardless of the topic or people involved.

Lani never withdrew his love of family, even during the most difficult of times. His friend Adam was a source of comfort and valued friendship throughout his life, and girlfriend Alise Hornik provided him with love and support. His greatest joy in life was being a father to his three children, who were first in his heart and partnered in their growth with the support of Ashley Wilson, their mother. Days before his death, Lani shared with friends and family his desire to reconnect with his faith where he found a new sense of peace. May his peace be a source of comfort for all of us left behind, and we can draw our strength in knowing his family beside him in heaven will provide him comfort, now and forever.

No one could put into words everything about Tom that made us love him. He loved and cared for his kids, his family, his friends, and would do anything for them.

I met Tom in high school, in band class. We remained friends after we left school. Even when Tom was playing video games, he was making friends all over the world. He introduced me to all sorts of people around Michigan and online. That's how Tom was: charasmatic, outgoing, not afraid to talk to someone and tell them how he felt.
He will be missed dearly.

Rest well, Tom
I love you, man. I hope you are at peace.

What do I say here, this guy here was more than a brother to me. We use to spend almost every weekend together even going to family events so I know if you knew him you most likely know of myself and I've seen you all too. This guy here will always be my bestfriend. I've known him as Lani and Tom, since age seven as Lani and once middle/high school he wanted to go by Tom. He knew me more than anyone, we were always getting into things and having fun. I could never just pick one memory with you Lani, their is too much good ones to just say. A true friend you are. You will be defiantly missed. We taught each other so many things growing up . Whether it be advice or getting it done. We put computers together in high school. We always played games together. We would always be DET VR ATL in NFL blitz on N64 and it would always end with like 6 fumbles 7 interceptions always turning into a TD for the win of the game. It would always be a coin flip with games we played. When it came to Def jam he was the top dog.

So Tom, all these memories will live on. Man brother, dude... the history between you and I should be a book my brother. Love you.

Dear Lani,
This is your "cousin" from afar. I have watched you and the boys (Al, Nick, Blake and Ronnie) grow up together. It brought me so much joy just to see the family love between all of you and to watch you all grow from boys to men. I have always been so proud of you-- the way you loved your children and worked very hard to be the best man and father that you could be for them. You did good Lani. Thank you for sharing so much of yourself with all of us. I will miss you! ❤️

I have known Tom since we were in the 7th grade. Since day one of knowing him he has always accepted and been there for me. I have so many memories that I will forever cherish and will hold on to. My heart and prayers go out to all his family and friends. I love you Tom. Thank you for always being that person who was there no matter what!

I knew this dude as Tom. When I first started dating his best friend Adam I had no idea I would be gaining a new brother. Tom has always without a doubt been there for both Adam and I despite his own problems and never missed a phone call from me. We were avid world of Warcraft gaming buddies and most of my memories were mmorpg related because we live so far from Tom. Tom will always be dear in my heart and I can not believe he is gone and I will be grieving him for a long time . Love ya bro. Until we meet again my friend…

I don’t have photos like I wish to, but I have memories. I would’ve liked to make more because it’s been years since I’ve been able to & it breaks my heart that I now can’t. I remember being very little, aunt Ashley and you had an apartment I think. This memory isn’t typically just with me, but just how u were with everyone. You came in, smiling, big hearted and very loving. You brought comfort to everyone in the room, including me. You would swing cousin veah and tati around or just find ways to make us happy. There was one time, we rode go carts, at Trevors birthday, that’s the last time I seen you, we had a brief conversation, a quick checkup, I was 13 or 14. You always checked in with everyone, that’s how I remember you, and everyone who knew u will miss you that same way.
