Tom Michael

Tom Michael passed away on March 15, 2023 at the age of 74. He was the beloved husband of Ida Michael. He was the loving father of Tiffany (Steven) Thomas, Tom (Sarah) Michael, Sherry (Chuck) Hattley, Debbie (Ara) Darakdjian, and Jerry (Stephanie) Tortomasi. He was the cherished grandfather of Brendan Thomas, Joshua Darakdjian, Nathan Darakdjian, Breanna Hattley, Brooke Hattley, and Tim Hattley. He was the caring great grandfather of Weston Stahl, Jeffery McMullen, Lawrence McMullen, Vivianna McMullen, Kenneth McMullen, Matthew Hattley, and Timothy Hattley. He was the dear brother of Whitley Michael, John Michael, Pat Michael, Bill Michael, and Doug Michael. At the young age of 17, Tom joined the United States Navy and served overseas during the Vietnam War. Upon his release from active duty, Tom received the Meritorious Unit Commendation, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. He was a member of the Huron Pointe Sportsman Association in Lenox, Michigan. Tom was the owner and operator of Quest Real Estate until his retirement in 2008. Tom’s passion for art glass became his new focus in his retirement. He opened Odyssey Art Glass in 2005 where he had many different hand blown glass pieces, such as vases and urns, jewelry, stained glass, and plaques. His hand painting of landscape and floral scenes are truly beautiful works of art. From 2008 to 2013, Tom’s art glass was on display and available to purchase at the Detroit Institute of Art. He was also commissioned to create twenty-two special pieces that were presented as gifts to donors of the DIA. Tom created pieces that were featured at one of Henry Ford Health System’s cancer ward. Tom’s warm smile, wonderful personality and caring nature will be missed by everyone who knew him. His love and passion will be seen in his artwork for generations to come. A visitation for Tom will be held Monday, March 20, 2023 from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Resurrection Funeral Home, 40800 Hayes Road in Clinton Township. A prayer service will occur Monday at 7:00 pm. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 21, 2023 at 11:00 am at the funeral home. Friends may visit the funeral home starting at 10:00 am.
