She is survived by daughters, Susan Orcutt and Karen Gibson; grandchildren: Terrance Roberts Jr., Izail Nowicki, Desir’ee Nowicki, James Gibson Jr., James Storey, Nicholas Storey, Jaxson Storey, and Jase Storey; great-grandchildren: Janavia Werdlow, Mariya Nowicki, Dezmond Fante, Laila Nowicki, Sol’e Nowicki, Skai Oldham, Jace Gibson, Terrance Edward Roberts 3rd, and Elisia Tru Roberts; and siblings: Evangelina Guzman, Christina Grice, and Pablo Guzman. Yolanda was predeceased by mother, Belem Guzman; father, Pablo Guzman; and brothers, Bob Nowicki and Joseph Michael Guzman.
Yolanda was born on May 8, 1939 to Pablo and Belham Guzman. She received her education at Saint Stanislaus High School in Detroit, Michigan. She married Robert Nowicki on October 28, 1965 in Detroit. She was raised in the Catholic Faith, however, her spirituality extended beyond denominational boundaries. She embraced a profound belief in God that guided her throughout her life, providing her with strength, comfort and a moral compass. Yolanda dedicated two decades of her life to Sears, where she served as a loyal and committed employee.
Yolanda had many interests that brought her joy and excitement. She loved watching sports, especially the Lions and the Pistons. If you wanted to know about the Lions or Pistons, you could call grandma. However, she loved watching her grandchildren play sports more than anything. She loved working out at the gym. She dedicated herself to maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle. Yolanda loved her dog Chico who brought happiness to her life. She cherished their playful moments and the love they shared.
She cherished spending time with her grandchildren. She treasured those moments and created lasting memories with her loved ones. Yolanda loved her music; all the grandchildren knew Grandma loved Elvis and Mariah Carey. The grandchildren listened to Mariah Carey in the hospital with Yolanda in her last days. She loved dancing and laughter. We will never forget Grandma and Desi dancing. Most importantly we will never forget her laugh. There was nothing better than laughing with Grandma.
