It is with deep sadness that the family of Armando P. Ramirez, age 85, of Clovis, California, announces his peaceful passing on Sunday, March 9, 2025. Armando was born in Buttonwillow, California, attended school in Bakersfield and soon after getting married he moved to Fresno, then Clovis where he lived most of his adult life. He lived a life full of love, laughter, and lasting memories.
Armando was a man of simple joys and deep love for his family. He had a passion for attending Dodgers games, especially double headers. He was always confident that they were going to win, and he was so happy when they won the World Series last year. He often sang mariachi songs in the shower, in the car, and on the treadmill, joyfully singing the chorus along with a few lyrics of his favorite songs. He did not care that he didn’t know the entire song. He would sing the chorus of one song, and it would lead immediately into the chorus of another song. His love for sports extended beyond the Los Angeles Dodgers to the Los Angeles Lakers, Rams, and USC, but it was his devotion to family that truly defined him.
Known for his playful spirit, Armando was affectionately called "Curly" by his siblings, friends, nieces, and nephews. He earned the nickname "baby stealer" for his undeniable charm with babies. He loved holding, playing, and singing to babies. His lighthearted and loving nature were definite traits, along with his ability to admire and appreciate having his family near and all together. He enjoyed the simple pleasures of life—rainbow sherbet, and lemon meringue pie, family road trips to Dodgers baseball games, and long drives to places he loved, including their beach house in Arroyo Grande that they once owned. No trip was too long. He shared his love for driving with his wife and children. Every year he made sure to squeeze in a trip to the snow, the beach, an amusement park, a Dodgers game, and a trip to Mexico to visit family. In his retirement, his travels with his wife Carmen included trips to the beach, the mountains, cruises, and to Mexico to visit family. Armando created many cherished memories that will live on.
Armando's sense of humor and kindness were matched only by his incredible work ethic. He never missed a day of work during his career with the United States Postal Service, exemplifying his dedication and responsibility. He also worked for many years with his brother Tommy at his gas station. Then after retirement from the Postal Service he worked as a courier for Quest Diagnostics. He drove to the rural areas and foothills to pick up lab work, spending a large portion of his day driving. He was very happy to have a job where he was paid to drive, and he was able to listen to Mariachi music or Dodgers games on the radio, which he enjoyed. He was always there for those in need, the first to offer a helping hand, and his calm, level-headed demeanor made him a source of steady strength for his family. He often came to the rescue for his children. They knew that it only took one phone call and dad would be there to help out any way he could.
Armando was a proud semi-professional baseball player. He took pride that in high school he played with college players and was known for always being on the move. He loved jogging, swimming, and simply being active in his younger years—whether it was playing with his kids, grandkids, or taking a walk on the beach with his wife.
Armando is survived by his devoted wife of 60 and a half years, Carmen Ramirez; his children Carmen Gomes (Andy), Sylvia Ramirez, Laura Luna, and Elena Cotta (Brian); his grandchildren Nikolas Gomes (Laurel), Monet Gomes, Danielle La France, Samantha La France, Andrew Cotta, Sophia Luna, and Santana Luna; as well as great-grandchildren Elise and Irene Gomes.
He was preceded in death by his son Angel Ramirez; his parents Lino & Anastasia Ramirez; his brothers Joe, Paul, and Thomas Ramirez; and his sisters Alice Gutierrez, Nellie Barela, and Lupe Beltran.
Armando was also cherished by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, all of whom will hold his memory close.
Above all, Armando will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather who loved to bring his family together, offering them love, laughter, and unwavering support.
