Carmen served 40 years as interpreter for the federal and superior courts, as well as for the Department of Immigration. She was also involved in establishing the standardization requirements for court interpreters in Fresno County.
Carmen was talented singer and guitar player. At age of 17 she performed at the World's Fair in San Francisco. When the city of Fresno adopted the city of Torreon, Mexico as a sister city, she was asked to perform on stage, a song she had written for the occasion. Carmen was still singing and playing her guitar well into her 90s. Accompanied by her family Carmen and Joe enjoyed many trips abroad as well as domestic travel.
Carmen had a great sense of humor, was fun loving, creative, an excellent cook, and made gardening an art form. She was a beautiful lady, and we will miss her.
Carmen is survived by her son Joseph E. Barrera; her daughter Patricia McGuire; and her son-in-law Robert; her grandson Eric Barrera; her granddaughter Kristen Gourley; her grandson-in-law Jonathan Gourley; her great-grandson Silas Gourley; her great-granddaughter Jolee Barrera; her step grandson Nick McGuire; her step great-grandchild Avery McGuire; her step great-grandson Chase McGuire; and her step great grandchild Walker McGuire.
