Carmen was born on June 6, 1944, in St. Louis, Missouri, to Reverend John and Ruby Peters. She was raised in a loving pastor’s home, where her faith was nurtured from an early age and her musical gifts flourished. Carmen excelled in both piano and vocal performance, talents that would later become a lifelong ministry.
As a young woman, while attending a Mennonite young men's choir concert where Roger was the president, Carmen immediately picked him out of the choir and thought she might marry him. She was right! They wed the next summer, on August 27, 1966. Music was their lifelong shared joy as they ministered together in song, and eventually alongside their daughters for the glory of Christ.
Carmen and Roger were blessed with five daughters: Christi, Dareth, Erika, Tiffany, and Hillary. Though Carmen had been offered a gospel recording contract & had a promising vocal career ahead of her, she happily gave it up to devote herself fully to her greatest joy—her family.
Their home was bustling with music, laughter, and love. . . and lots of girls- all infused by Carmen’s tenacious joy in Christ and an unwavering devotion to her family. Beautiful on both the inside and out, Carmen poured her life into her role as mother and disciple-maker, which she cherished as her highest calling.
In the warm home that Carmen created, many friends came and went, feeling loved and welcomed by Carmen’s fun and joyful spirit. Carmen inspired many through her constant faith and trust in Christ, and her commitment to pray and to praise in every circumstance. Her life’s motto was, “Keep Believin'!” and she encouraged everyone she knew to do the same. During the last years of her life, she drew from the strength she found in Christ as she faced the challenges of Alzheimer's. As always, her Lord and Savior proved faithful to her, and on December 9, 2025, He mercifully brought her home.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, January 10, at 11:00am at Trinity Community Church, 12168 North Willow Avenue, Clovis, California 93619. All who knew Carmen are invited to attend.
