I was deeply saddened to hear that my friend, mentor, and former principal, Doug Perry, had passed.  In 1981-83, I was a student at El Capitan, and he was my principal.  My family and I adored him, and he could always be seen around the school spending quality time with the kids.  He was truly dedicated to making El Capitan the best middle school.  11 years later in 1994, he hired me as a beginning teacher at El Capitan.  He gave me the opportunity, and since then, I have never looked back.  He was a tremendous mentor and leader, always willing to listen, and his door always open.  He deeply cared for his staff and students and always supported his teachers.  I learned so much from observing him and listening to his advice, and it has carried on into my own teaching career.  I am lucky to have known and worked with such a great friend, mentor, and leader.  My condolences go out to his family during this difficult time.  Doug, you were the best! 💜

I am saddened to hear of the passing of Doug Perry.   Mr. Perry was an outstanding leader and principal.  I looked up to him as a man of character and integrity.   He was always willing to listen to his staff and shared  advice and suggestions with kindness and sincerity. 
 He considered what was in the best interest of his staff and students before he made decisions.   He created such are positive culture at El Cap  by modeling respect for us all.   He was well loved by students and teachers.    He will be missed.  I  extend my sympathies to his family.

This struck me hard to read. Doug was my PE teacher for the two years I was a student at ElCapitan 70-73. Then I had the pleasure to serve under him as his head custodian from 83 till his retirement. He was there for all his staff. Doug was well respected because he respected us all. He always had time to hear my concerns no matter what. His door was always open to all of us. Doug was without a doubt the most caring principal I had the please working with.  My prayers to Rayna, Greg, Scott and rest of the Perry family.  I have missed his leadership and now his friendship till we meet again.

Doug hired me for my first teaching job at El Capitan. He was the best principal ever. He taught me so many things as a first year teacher.  It was a pleasure to be a part of his staff. He will be greatly missed. God bless his family. 

Mr.Perry (my respect was such that I could never call him Doug) was my first principal.Boy did I hit the jackpot ! Truly,everything I ultimately came to know about teaching was because of him.To be firm but kind.To have a plan but be prepared for pretty much anything.To take the big goals seriously but to have fun along the way.Most of all, to care.This man was the walking embodiment of caring. I hope I made him proud.I hope his family knows that little bits of Mr.Perry were constantly being put out into the world because of his influence on me.In 31 yrs.of teaching,no single leader/principal/administrator held a candle to the light shed by Douglas Perry.What a privilege it was to have been in the presence  of that light.   with love and gratitude,Paula B.
