Edwin Stanford Burney Jr. passed away at the age of 74 on October 13, 2022 from his battle with pulmonary fibrosis. He was a resident of Clovis, California at the time of his death.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marlene (Kanawyer) Burney, son Russell Burney, brother Brian Burney and wife Angela, step-mother Christine Burney and many loving aunts, cousins and friends. He was born in Vallejo, California on November 25, 1947 to Zola Mae (Poe) Burney and Edwin Stanford Burney, both predeceased.
He lived the majority of his life in Fresno County, graduating from Hoover High School and Fresno City College and spent 2 years in the US Army. He was an employee of AT&T for 20 years, where he retired early, then joined his father as President of Telco Enterprises in 1986. He and Russell ran the company after his father retired in 1997. Ed retired in 2012 and Russell became President.
It's not hard to describe this unique and inspirational man. His insight spoke volumes. He acquired many friendships through work, rotary and especially his love of the mountains, snow skiing, 4-wheeling, snowmobiling, water skiing, sailing, dirt biking, camping and leisure rides in his pontoon boat in his later years. He and Marlene moved to Shaver Lake, California in 1999 then back to Clovis in 2010. Two years later they bought a cabin at Huntington Lake, California to renew their mountain activities. Eventually the altitude became too much for Ed, but he would still manage a day or two at his beloved cabin. He couldn’t let go of the great outdoors.
A Celebration of Life will be held November 12, 2022 at 10 a.m. at Quail Lake Community Church, 3350 North McCall Avenue, Sanger, California with special thanks to Stan Kanawyer (officiating) and Marlene’s sister and brother-in-law, Nola and Randy Neely, for helping bring all of us together to celebrate Ed at this beautiful outdoor place.
We want to thank the medical staff at Kaiser Hospital in Fresno for their compassion and kindness at the end of his life.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.boicefuneralhome.com for the Burney family.
