Elsie “Arlene” Christensen, born on January 30, 1936, in Kerman, California, passed away on September 24, 2025, at the age of 89. A resident of Clovis, California, Arlene’s life was marked by dedication, warmth, and a deep commitment to family and community.
Arlene graduated from Kerman Union High School in 1953, where she worked part-time in the school bookstore. She continued her education at Fresno State University, earning a bachelor's degree in physical education in 1957. Her professional life included clerical positions at local retailers such as McMahon's Furniture, Sears Roebuck & Co., and the California State Lottery Office. She also held secretarial and receptionist roles in medical offices and concluded her career as a sales clerk at Gottschalks Village East.
In 1957, Arlene married Gary Christensen, with whom she shared a long and happy life. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Gary, who resides in Clovis, California. Arlene is also survived by her sons Jon Christensen (Michelle) of Liberty Lake, Washington, Brian Christensen (Renee), and Kevin Christensen (Rebecca), both of Fresno, California. Her memory will be cherished by her sister Wilda Thompson and seven adoring grandchildren and three loving great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her sister Edna O'Bryan and her brother Leroy Gumz.
Arlene had a passion for shopping, gardening, sewing, reading, and cooking, enriching her life and the lives of those around her.
A funeral service will be held at Fresno Memorial Gardens, located at 175 South Cornelia Ave, Fresno, CA 93706, on October 18, 2025, at 1:30 pm.
