I transferred into the Fresno Office in 1968 and Ernie was the "Old Timer" report revue Officer. He was always a gentleman to us "new" guys. In later years I never missed a chance to kid him about the infamous "sleeping at the desk" photo and would mention that he had more time sleeping at his desk than I had working the road.

I had the pleasure of working with Ernie as a Chp dispatcher 1964-1978  My memory of Ernie was that he was "100% Old  School" you can never find another person like Ernie dedicated to his job and his family as much. His I'd nbr 849 was so low compared to the 20,000 plus I'd nbrs now with the CHP   I have a fresno Chp squad photo  taken 1948 and I believe Ernie was the last survivor. May Ernie rest  in peace. It was a pleasure knowing him.

I started working for CHP in 1960 and worked with Officer Berry for 18 years out of 28 years I worked as A CHP Dispatcher. "I learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." by Maya Angelou As a woman of Japanese ancestry, I felt respected and valued as a person by Officer Berry. May he rest in peace and be forever with his loving wife, Jeanne

Happy memories of our handsome uncle in uniform as a CHP Motorcycle cop. Loved the tall, shiny boots. Ernie was so caring for his bride , Jeanne , when she was ill. He was a loving and loyal husband. We imagine them traveling together  now, eternally .
