Genevieve Keating Shephard, affectionately known to family and friends as “Tootsie,” passed away on October 9, 2026, at the age of 68, leaving behind a lifetime of cherished memories, countless smiles, and a little less laughter in the world.
Born on February 4, 1958, Tootsie was one of eleven children born to Jim and Betty Keating. She grew up in Marin County, California, surrounded by a large family and developing the spirited, fun-loving personality that would become her trademark. At the time of her passing, she was living in Fresno, California, with her husband, Darrel.
Tootsie was truly one of a kind. Sassy, spontaneous, and blessed with a wonderful sense of humor, she had a bubbly personality and an infectious zest for life. She could light up a room simply by walking into it, and whether you had known her for a lifetime or had only just met her, chances are she left you with a smile and a lasting impression.
Beneath her playful spirit was a gentle, kind, and deeply compassionate heart. Tootsie cared about others, especially those less fortunate than herself, and was always willing to lend a helping hand. Her love extended to animals, which held a special place in her heart.
She found happiness in life’s simple pleasures. She loved the ocean and enjoyed spending time bowling, playing bingo, crafting, and gardening. Whatever the activity, Tootsie had a way of making it more enjoyable simply by being there. Her spontaneity, quick wit, and sometimes sassy sense of humor made even ordinary moments memorable.
Above all, Tootsie will be remembered for the joy she brought into the lives of others. She had a special gift for making people laugh, feel welcome, and enjoy the moment. Her warmth, kindness, and unforgettable personality touched more lives than she could ever have imagined.
Tootsie was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Betty Keating; her beloved son, Timothy Bellefeuille; and her brother, Stevie Keating.
She is survived by her loving husband, Darrel Shepherd; her four children; and her nine surviving siblings, along with many other family members and friends who will forever treasure her memory.
Family and friends are invited to gather, share memories, laughter, and stories of a woman who brought so much happiness into the lives of those around her.
Though her absence leaves an emptiness in the hearts of those she leaves behind, her laughter, love, and joyful spirit will live on in the countless memories she created.
Perhaps no words could better capture Tootsie’s unforgettable spirit than those shared by a relative upon hearing of her passing:
“Heaven just got more fun!”
