At age nine, Jim moved with his family to Coalinga, CA where his California Highway Patrol Officer father, Bill Geren, was transferred. Jim graduated from Coalinga High School and helped his family in a small trucking company. He was drafted into the U.S. Army with basic training at Fort Ord, CA, and sent to Fort Benning, GA where as part of the 1st Calvary Unit was sent by ship to Vietnam.
After the military, Jim attended Fresno City College and Fresno State College earning teaching credentials in Mathematics and Industrial Arts. He taught at Selma High School for 30 years retiring in 2005. Jim also taught night school classes at Fresno City College for 14 years.
Jim enjoyed spending time with his family swimming, fishing, camping, boating with fun memorable family and friends trips to the mountains and the beach.
Jim’s passing was preceded by his parents, Bill Geren and Jeannette Geren Deverick, his son, Jeffrey Geren, and his two sisters, Jeanne Whitaker and Susan (Mike) Keenan.
Jim is survived by his wife of 56 years, Tanya Geren, his three daughters, Jennifer (Tony) Puentes, Alison (Troy) Galleguillos, and Andrea Geren, and three grandchildren, Josh Puentes, Hunter Galleguillos and Madison Mahaffey.
A private interment will be held at the Clovis Cemetery. A Celebration of Life for family and friends will be held at a later date.
