John was born in El Campo, TX to the late Julio and Gregoria Castillo. He was the second eldest of five children, and the last survived.
John was extremely proud of his service to our country, having served in both the Army National Guard and the U.S. Marine Corps. During his tenure in the Marine Corps, he was assigned to the 1st Tank Battalion in Camp Pendleton, CA, where he perfected his skills as a tank driver. His weaponry skills extended to his firearms where he consistently qualified as a pistol and rifle expert.
After his time in the service, John met his amazing wife Virginia, and they raised a beautiful family together; often reflecting on the memories of the life they built.
John discovered a new passion in the irrigation industry and spent the next 60 years in that field. He helped develop enhancements in irrigation systems that aided many agricultural farmers across the central valley. His passion for agriculture also extended into his home life. He worked diligently to ensure his yard was perfectly manicured and maintained a fruitful garden. It brought him much joy to share his yield of fruits and vegetables with his family and friends. John’s happiest moments were spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was a proud father and grandfather.
John is survived by his beautiful wife of 60 years, Virginia Castillo; and is lovingly remembered by his sons, daughters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
