John served in the Army during the Vietnam War, a chapter of his life remembered with deep respect. He also devoted 50 years to the cable TV industry, bringing steady commitment and capable hands to work that benefited from both experience and practical know-how.
Family stood at the center of John’s life. He shared 32 years of marriage with his wife, Bonnie Garland of Sanger, California. He is also survived by his son, Clyde Garland (Cindy) of Phoenix, Arizona. John was also blessed with a granddaughter, Allyson (23). He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Mildred (Skinner) Garland.
Those who knew John will remember a man who could fix nearly anything, approaching everyday problems with calm confidence and a skillful, can-do spirit. He was computer savvy, enjoyed listening to oldies music, and found particular joy in traveling—his greatest passion. Among his trips abroad were visits to Egypt, Ireland, Scotland, and England, journeys that reflected a lasting curiosity about the wider world.
